BROOK PARK, Ohio -- Hundreds of drivers got a late summer treat Friday morning and it wasn't a new road, or faster commute. Rather, it was cheaper than normal gas.A local business teamed up with a nearby gas station in Brook Park to pump out gas for $1.99 a gallon. The event was supposed to start at 7 a.m., but there were so many cars waiting, the Marathon Gas Station on West 139th and Brook Park Road turned on the pumps at 6 a.m. instead. Some people waiting in line had been there since midnight."I just decided to take some time, study out here. I'm a medical student," said Walter Lyons. He also used the wait to take a nap, or two, in his car. By 6 a.m., the Marathon Station parking lot was full. By 7 a.m. a line of cars blocked Brook Road all the way to West 150th Street. The event was a promotion by Maximum Elevator. It's an elevator repair company looking to get its name out. The company owner, Brian Short, debated billboards and other advertising, but realized no one else benefits from that."You give back to the public, you get exposure," Short said. "So, it works good for everyone."Paying the difference between $1.99 a gallon and the regular retail price of $3.69 a gallon will cost Maximum more than $20,000. He agreed to buy 14,000 gallons of discounted gas on a first-come, first-served basis. And although most of those in line had never heard of Maximum Elevator before, drivers said it's a name they plan to remember."I think this is great," said Gigi Thomas. "I'll be looking for Maximum to thank them all day!"
