Police Looking For Man Who Dumped Mercury In Parking Lot

POSTED: 9:08 am EDT July 27, 2008

Tallmadge police are looking for the person who dumped mercury in a parking lot.

Officials reported a 3-feet mercury spill in front of a business on West Avenue in Tallmadge on Saturday.

Mercury is a poisonous metal and can cause serious problems resulting from long-term exposure, police said.

The Tallmadge police and fire departments, Summit County Hazmat and the EPA helped contain the spill. Officials said there was no risk to the general public.

Police said an unknown man was observed dumping the material onto the parking lot on Wednesday.

His vehicle is described as a red, 1990s full-size pickup truck.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact the Tallmadge Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-633-4231.
