Police Say Man Confessed To Beating Man, Burning Body

UPDATED: 7:38 am EDT July 24, 2008

A detective in an affidavit describes in detail what Alex Wulff said happened the night a Cleveland man disappeared.

The brothers, Alex and Aaron Wullf didn't say anything when they appeared in court Wednesday. The affidavit reveals plenty, however, about what the brothers said they did to John Maruschak.

The affidavit for a search warrant issued in Ashtabula County provides information about a burned body or charred debris in the field.

According to a Cleveland investigator, Alex Wullf, confessed to killing Maruschak. He told detectives his 25-year-old neighbor tried to break into his home and that's when Wullf beat him with a baseball bat.

The court documents go on to state that Wullf then put Maruschak in his truck and dumped him at a Cleveland park.

The investigator said Wullf went back later and found Maruschak dead.

Wulff told the investigator he then moved the body to a property in Ashtabula County, where he burned it for six hours and scattered the ashes.

The Wulff brothers are charged with kidnapping and felonious assault. The prosecutor said that more charges are pending, depending on what is found in the field.

So far, investigators said a bloody rock and wood pieces with suspected blood on it them were found. Investigators also found blood spattered at the Cleveland home.

Bond was set at $750,000 each.
