Woman Arrested In 6-Year-Old's Death

Woman Tells Police Girl Drowned At Edgewater Park

UPDATED: 5:31 pm EDT July 17, 2008

Cleveland police arrested a woman in connection with the death of a 6-year-old girl.

Police said the girl was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center emergency room by 45-year-old Linda Sykes, who told authorities that the child drowned at Edgewater Park.

Detectives said Sykes' story had many inconsistencies. They arrested Sykes but have not charged her yet.

Police seized the woman's vehicle, which was used to take the child to Metro, for evidence.

Reports indicate that the child had some bruises, but it is unclear if they had anything to do with her death. A coroner's ruling is pending.

Police say the death is suspicious and it is being investigated as a homicide.
