The Summit County Metro Parks will allow bow hunting by permit this fall as part of a continuing effort to control the deer population.

Participation will be limited to Summit County residents who pass an archery test and whose names are chosen in a lottery in August.

The hunting areas include portions of the Columbia Run and Quick Road conservation areas, Pond Brook conservation area, and Furnace Run Metro Park.

The public lottery will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at Coventry Oaks Pavilion in Akron's Firestone Metro Park.

Participants must bring proof of passing the archery test, which can be obtained at Gander Mountain in Twinsburg, Hadley's Sports in Akron and The Marksman in Norton.

Chosen hunters will be assigned an area and are given a two-week period to hunt.
