Mother Of Slain Officer Says Family Devastated

Twinsburg Officer Shot 4 Times In Head Over Weekend

The mother and stepfather of slain Twinsburg Officer Joshua Miktarian spoke publicly on Tuesday, talking about their grief about losing a son.

"Well we're just devastated. He was my baby and him leaving his little baby is … we're just devastated," said Miktarian's mother, Minda Barlow.

On their way to the Twinsburg Police Department Tuesday, Barlow and her husband, Steve, passed the growing memorial to Miktarian. They came to listen to the dispatch call from the day the 33-year-old officer was shot four times in the head.

"It's terrible. It just gets worse. The worst part was playing it for the family," said Tom Austin, of the Twinsburg police.

For Miktarian's mother, this time is one that has been on her mind since her son became a police officer.

"I always worried about it but I thought him working in Twinsburg, he would be safer than some other places," said Minda Barlow.

The grieving parents also spoke about justice for the man accused of killing Miktarian, 23-year-old Ashford Thompson.

"That's not for us to decide, that's for the courts and the police department to take care of all that," said Steve Barlow.

Minda Barlow said, "I have no feelings for the murderer. I have no feelings at all for him. All I know is my baby's gone. My baby's gone and his baby doesn't have a father. That's what I know."

Minda Barlow made sure to point out that everyone in the community and police department has been wonderful to them since they arrived.
