Doctor Testifies In Attorney's Severe Beating Case

UPDATED: 12:51 pm EDT July 15, 2008

Opening arguments started Tuesday for a man accused of being part of a group that beat a Shaker Heights attorney.

Joseph Wilson, 19, faces 14 counts, including attempted murder and aggravated robbery. He did not take a plea deal like another involved in the beating of Kevin McDermott.

An orthopedic surgeon was the first to testify in the case. He said that McDermott's bones in his knee were so severely shattered that it resembled injuries from a car crash.

McDermott was out for a walk when he was attacked. In earlier reports, McDermott said his leg was beaten with a pipe.

Wilson and five others were charged with attempted murder in connection with the New Year's Eve beating.

Wilson faces 14 counts, including attempted murder and aggravated robbery.
