New Philadelphia authorities recovered the body of a swimmer who disappeared swimming in the Tuscarawas River earlier in the week.

Crews found the body of 32-year-old Brian Byington at about 3 p.m. on Saturday, NewsChannel5 reported.

Authorities said no foul play is suspected.

Byington was swimming with family and friends on Tuesday when he tried to make it across the river and went under.

Cpt. Wes Tucke of the New Philadelphia Fire Department said a lot of people underestimate the undercurrents of the water.

"Well, the Tuscarawas River along with other rivers people don't understand," Tucke said. "They may look calm but there's undercurrents in rivers and especially in this area. There's a utility crossing here ... it's pretty strong rapids."
