692 OVI Arrests Made In Ohio

CLEVELAND -- The numbers are in on the number of OVI arrests and crashes from the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Since Thursday night, the Ohio State Highway Patrol increased its visibility in an effort to crack down on drunken drivers and reduce the amount of fatal crashes. Troopers reported nine fatal crashes from 6 p.m. Thursday until midnight Sunday, with 67 percent being OVI-related. And troopers made 692 OVI arrests and assisted 4,819 motorists in the 3 1/4 days.Last year during the holiday reporting period of 1 1/4 days, 10 people were killed on Ohio roads, with six being OVI-related. State troopers arrested 294 impaired drivers, and assisted 3,332 motorists.In addition to this year's traffic enforcement efforts, the patrol had 32 felony arrests, 127 drug violations and seized five weapons statewide.
