Officer's Family Starts Letter Campaign To Keep Man In Prison

A parole hearing on Monday could grant early release to a man who shot a local police officer.

Christopher Monihan shot Canal Fulton Police Officer Ed Harbaugh four times 13 years ago.

Monihan wants to go free from jail two years early, but the officer's family hopes to prevent that.

They started a letter-writing campaign to the parole board and the Stark County Chief's Association.

Prosecutors, judges and officers across the state started writing letters.

"It's just nice to know that the law enforcement community is out there as well as a lot of citizens that have been writing letters also and I am sure that there will be a lot more," said Harbaugh.

After Monihan's hearing, the parole board has 30 days to make a decision. If the board grants parole, the Harbaughs plan an appeal.
