MEDINA, Ohio -- Officials are investigating a one-vehicle-pedestrian fatal crash that occurred on U.S. 42 near Milepost 9 in Lafayette Twp at approximately 6:21 p.m. Friday, according to the Highway Patrol.

Matthew A. Shaum, 30, of Burbank, was traveling north on U.S. 42 when his 1999 Ford truck hit Cody Young, 13, of Medina, who was attempting to walk to cross the street.

Cody was transported to Lodi Community Hospital, where he died.

Shaum and his passengers were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
