1 Injured In Chemical Fire At Area Plant

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Firefighters are at the scene of a chemical fire at Agmet Metals in Maple Heights Friday afternoon.Witnesses say that the fire's black smoke could be seen up to 15 miles away.Police closed a portion of Dunham Road. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.The alarm came in around 11:30 a.m. for the fire. Eight departments were called in to assist, including Garfield Heights, Bedford, Bedford Heights, Solon, Valley View, Oakwood and Independence.Officials said employees were working with a nickel metal catalyst, which caught fire. One worker was injured in the blaze. Sources said the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.The blaze, which is now contained, caused a partial roof collapse and some explosions.The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
