CLEVELAND -- A man charged in the beating, shooting and kidnapping of a local mother appeared in court Thursday morning.

Matthew Plas, 25, pleaded not guilty to several charges including kidnapping and attempted murder.

His bond was set at $1 million.

The Elyria mother of three remains in critical condition. She is paralyzed from the waist down.

His pretrial is set for June 2.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in jail.
