Teacher's Aide Blames Criminal Background On Mistaken Identity

A former Cleveland Metropolitan School District teaching assistant denies she has a criminal past including prostitution and sexual assault.

Georgina Agosto is now working at an east side day care center after resigning as an assistant at Collinwood High School.

Agosto said this is a case of mistaken identity, reported NewsChannel5's Duane Pohlman.

Agosto is working at Kathryn R. Tyler Day Care Center on East 105th Street.

"I spent a lot of money trying to clear myself and all I want to do is be left alone," said Agosto.

A month ago, Agosto was a teaching assistant for special education students at Collinwood. The school district confirmed a criminal background check showed prostitution in Washington, D.C., and sexual assault in Atlanta.

Agosto said she is innocent, and that she has a document from Washington police stating she has no criminal background in that city.

Agosto said the allegations of the Atlanta sexual assault are also wrong.

But Cleveland schools are standing by the findings.

"In a situation like this, we rely on the information coming from the highest source, the FBI. We deem the information to be accurate," said CMSD spokesman Ben Holbert.

Holbert said the only official response from Agosto came a week ago, when she handed in her resignation.

"She was given the opportunity to formally refute the findings and did not," he said.
