PARMA, Ohio -- A 39-year-old man released from jail 10 days ago is accused of beating a woman in a Parma park on Saturday. Todd A. Torok, of Parma, was charged Monday with attempted murder, aggravated robbery and felonious assault. Police said he beat Chevonne Ecclestone in the head with a 15-to-20-pound rock while she was walking her dog along an access road to Camp Corde on Ridgewood Drive. Another woman walking in the park found Ecclestone face down in a creek in the West Creek Reserve Picnic area at 3:40 p.m. Ecclestone, 52, is in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center. Officials said she is in a chemically-induced coma.Police said Torok's arrest record started when he was 18 years old and include charges of aggravated burglary and abduction.He just got out of jail 10 days ago for a probation violation on a robbery charge.Police said Torok was seen at the park as early as 9:30 a.m. They said he identified himself as a police officer and asked people for a ride. He also said that he had a gun.Police said that he acted on his own, and that two others in Ecclestone's stolen car during a chase on Sunday were not involved.
