A 39-year-old man released from jail 10 days ago is accused of beating a woman in a Parma park on Saturday.

Todd A. Torok, of Parma, was charged Monday with attempted murder, aggravated robbery and felonious assault.

Police said he beat Chevonne Ecclestone in the head with a 15-to-20-pound rock while she was walking her dog along an access road to Camp Corde on Ridgewood Drive.

Another woman walking in the park found Ecclestone face down in a creek in the West Creek Reserve Picnic area at 3:40 p.m.

Ecclestone, 52, is in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center. Officials said she is in a chemically-induced coma.

Police said Torok's arrest record started when he was 18 years old and include charges of aggravated burglary and abduction.

He just got out of jail 10 days ago for a probation violation on a robbery charge.

Police said Torok was seen at the park as early as 9:30 a.m. They said he identified himself as a police officer and asked people for a ride. He also said that he had a gun.

Police said that he acted on his own, and that two others in Ecclestone's stolen car during a chase on Sunday were not involved.
