A 52-year-old Strongsville woman is in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center after being attacked and robbed at a local park on Saturday, NewsChannel5 reported.

Police are trying to figure out who targeted Chevonne Ecclestone and why.

Police said she went to a Parma park to walk her dog. At 3:40 p.m., campers found her body in the woods near Camp Corde on Ridgewood Drive. She had been severely beaten and was bleeding from the head. They called 911.

Just after 8 a.m. Sunday, Cleveland police officers spotted the woman's stolen Pontiac Vibe on the east side of Cleveland with three men inside.

Officers from Cleveland, and at least five other surrounding suburbs, tracked and pursued the vehicle for more than an hour and a half.

The suspect driving the stolen vehicle finally came to a stop on Brookpark Road on the west side of Cleveland. There was no immediate word on where the other two men exited the vehicle.

Police took the suspect into custody. According to Parma Police Detective Marty Compton, they do not yet know if the man arrested is connected to the attack that occured on Saturday.

Police are still investigating if the woman was targeted or attacked at random.

"At this point, I don't know that she made any mistakes, but obviously somebody took advantage of her being by herself," said Compton.

Several witnesses have come forward to relay that they were in the area of the West Creek Reserve on Saturday when they were approached by a white male who purported himself to be an armed undercover plain clothes police officer. It is believed that this individual may have been involved in this incident.

Parma police are asking anyone who may have been approached or may have information relative to this incident to call 440-885-1234.
