Smoke Smell Fills NewsChannel5 During Apartment Fire

CLEVELAND -- Employees at NewsChannel5 smelled smoke inside the TV station after an apartment fire broke out Friday night.The blaze started before 11 p.m. on East 30th Street near Euclid Avenue across from the WEWS-TV studios.About seven fire trucks and EMS units were at the scene. A Cleveland fire representative said that a woman was cooking inside her apartment and started the fire. When she tried to put it out, the flames jumped to nearby bookshelves. That's when she called for help.About 30 residents were standing out in the rain wrapped in blankets until they could go back in the building.Nobody was hurt in the blaze.
