LORAIN, Ohio -- Two vicious dogs were mistakenly released from the pound after attacking two people in Lorain.
The mix-up left the some in a neighborhood living in fear and wondering what went wrong, according to NewsChannel5.
The Lorain city dog warden went to the home of Lucas Morales, 20, but it wasn't Morales that he was looking for. It was his American bulldog that was taken into custody. The warden also took Morales' pit bull.
Both dogs bit a neighbor and days later bit a Columbia gas meter reader.
The dogs, however, were mistakenly released days later.
"Two vicious dogs and then they release them?" said neighbor Ron Kuchbel. "A $90 fine, only to have this guy walking the dogs outside. Nobody is enforcing the quarantine."
Kucbel is upset and appalled the dogs were released. He told WEWS they could have bitten more people, including the dozens of children living in the neighborhood.
NewsChannel5 spoke with Lorain city dog warden Jack Wilhelm. He said he ordered the county pound not to release the dogs.
"We take our dogs over there and book them in, and after that it's up to the county," said Wilhelm. "What they do with them is up to them. But isn't it a shame both sides aren't on the same page of music? Exactly right. I think it had to do with the county dog warden being on vacation this week."
However, county officials said it was Wilhelm's mistake. They said if he would had obtained a court order from a judge in the first place, the dogs never would have been released.
The dogs' owner Lucas Morales, declined to be interviewed. However, neighbors claimed he's already training his new puppies.
WEWS reported his "training" was to shake the two puppies while holding their faces together. Once they start growling, he sets them down and lets them attack each other.
