Police are investigating a fire in West Park in which a man said he was tied up by robbers who then set a fire in his apartment.

The fire broke out Friday morning at a three-story apartment building on West 159th Street.

The victim, Terran Williams, told authorities that two people came to his door, one pointing a gun at him and asking for a person named Dave.

When Williams told them he didn't know where Dave was, he said the gunman hit him in the head with a gun, knocking him out temporarily.

He said when he came to, they asked if he had any valuables and then punched and kicked him.

He said the assailants tied him up in a closet and then lit the clothes hanging in the closet with a lighter.

Williams was able to escape, suffering abrasions, contusions and burns to his head face and body. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

Another woman from the third floor was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Fairview Hospital. Twelve other people were able to escape without injury.

Damages from the fire are estimated at $20,000.

No arrests have been made.
