UPDATED: 1:18 pm EDT April 30, 2008

Some Stark County students returned to Glenwood Middle School a day after witnessing a fatal crash.

The sheriff's department said a school bus driver was heading east on Route 62 at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday in Plain Township when 41-year-old Janet Lopez, traveling north on Roosevelt Avenue N.E., made an improper left turn in front of the bus.

The school bus then crashed into the left side of the 1999 Mercury Mystique.

Lopez was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Andrew Lopez, 19, was also taken to Mercy for possible injuries.

Crews took 12 of the 31 students to two local hospitals to be checked out. None of their injuries was serious. The bus driver was not injured.

The sheriff said both people in the car were wearing seat belts. Their investigation continues.

Sadly, Tuesday was Lopez's birthday.
