Lakewood Man Accused Of Plotting Attack On 2 Schools

UPDATED: 6:01 pm EDT April 25, 2008

Authorities near Cleveland have arrested a man they say e-mailed an Indiana teenager about conducting a Columbine-style attack on two schools.

Lakewood Police Chief Tim Malley said 33-year-old Lee Billi was charged Thursday with conspiracy to commit murder. A 16-year-old Indiana boy was arrested earlier this week.

Malley said he doesn't know how far along the two were in their alleged plans. Malley said they were talking about a Columbine-type plot.

Billi is currently at the Lakewood City Jail awaiting transport to Cuyahoga County Jail. He will be arrainged on Monday.

A computer was removed from Billi's Robinwood Avenue apartment in a search Thursday.

Police also confiscated computer disks, papers, books and three partial boxes of handgun ammunition.

Authorities said Billi and the teen exchanged e-mails Sunday in which they discussed mass murders at the same time at the teen's school near South Bend and at a location in Ohio.

Malley said he doesn't know what the other location was, but that it didn't involved a Lakewood school.

Billi's two-story brick apartment complex is within view of the Lakewood High School football stadium located on school grounds. The superintendent sent word through a secretary that he was unaware of any plot involving Lakewood schools.
