177 People Arrested In 4-Day Sweep Of Area Bars

A four-day sweep in the city of Akron led to the arrests of 117 people on 448 charges.

Akron police worked with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the U.S. Marshal's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, the University of Akron police, the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Division, Summit County Sheriff's Office, and the State of Ohio Department Public Safety to conduct "gun violence reduction sweeps."

The sweeps started Wednesday and ran through the weekend.

Of the charges, 56 were felony arrests, 264 were misdemeanor arrests, 19 felony warrant arrests and 109 misdemeanor warrant arrests. In addition, there were seven operating-under-the-influence arrests and 321 traffic citations, officials said.

The detail seized $3,542 in cash, 199.2 grams of crack/cocaine, 5.4 grams of powdered cocaine, 224 grams of marijuana, .3 grams of heroin, one Darvocet pill, nine Oxycodone pills, 114 Ritalin pills, 19 Xanex pills, and six Clonzepan pills. Three handguns, a knife and a stolen car were also recovered.

The operation performed several bar checks within the city of Akron. The bars targeted were the Longevity Bar at 1295 Newton St.; Jen's Den, located at 1335 Brittain Road; The Bank Lounge, located at 1078 Kenmore Blvd.; The Boulevard Lounge, located at 995 Kenmore Blvd.; The Busted Knuckle Bar, located at 1221 S. Arlington St.; and the Waterback Bar, located at 96 Cuyahoga St.

The gun violence reduction sweeps started in 2006 and will continue throughout this year.
