CLEVELAND -- Geauga Lake's historic roller coaster will be part of an auction of rides, equipment and memorabilia from the Aurora amusement park. The auction is set for June 17 and 18 at Geauga Lake. The Big Dipper, a 1926 National Amusement Landmark coaster, will be offered for sale. The Big Dipper is the 12th oldest operating wood roller coaster in the world, and has been the focus of efforts by the American Coaster Enthusiasts and others to preserve it on the site where it has stood since being built in 1925 by the famous roller coaster designer John Miller, a viewer told newsnet5.com. The Villain and Raging Wolf Bobs coasters will also be sold. Most of the rides left in the park will be a part of the auction, including adult and kiddie rides, the paddle wheel ferry boats, camping trailers and the Skyscraper observation tower -- formerly known as the Needle. At this time, the park's historic 1926 Marcus Illions hand-carved carousel is not included in the auction. Cedar Fair said in September that it was shutting down the amusement park because of low attendance. Cedar Fair will only use the water park of Geauga Lake starting this year.
