Does 1978 Snowstorm Compare To This Weekend's Storm?

POSTED: 6:24 pm EST March 8, 2008
UPDATED: 6:46 pm EST March 8, 2008

Which storm was the worst -- the storm of 1978 or the storm that hit Ohio this weekend?

The 1978 snowstorm remains the champion.

Power of 5 meteorologists Mark Johnson and Jason Nicholas said wind gusts were strong this weekend but did not reach the 70 to 100 mph gusts during the storm of 1978.

They added that schools and government offices were also closed for five days during the 1978 storm.

This weekend's storm affected the entire state with 10 to 20 inches of snow falling across the area. It is also delivering an inch to 2 inches of snow an hour.

"It is a big storm today, but it doesn't compare," Johnson said.
