BOE Machine To Be Replaced After Failing Test

CLEVELAND -- Fourteen of fifteen optical scanners passed testing on Friday.Cuyahoga County Board of Elections officials said the one machine that failed has been removed from the election and a replacement and a back-up scanner is on the way. The replacement scanner will undergo the same rigorous testing prior to being used March 4.All the scanners underwent a test on Friday. Earlier in the day, two of three scanners failed.Chief Investigator Duane Pohlman reported that the computer repeatedly showed an error message.The Board of Elections said previous tests of the scanners were successful, and officials do not know why the scanners did not initially read the ballots.Friday's tests were public pretests that are required by law.
