Principal Says Boy Accidentally Kicked Her While Breaking Up Fight

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland school officials said an elementary school principal was resting comfortably Saturday after being hospitalized when she got injured trying to break up a fight between two students.Orchard Elementary School Principal Maryann Knapp was trying to stop the fight between 12-year-old and 14-year-old boys just after school let out on Friday."I tried to break up the fight and one of the boys accidentally kicked me," said Knapp. School security and parents assisted in bringing the altercation to an end.Knapp was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center."I am resting today and feeling fine, "she said. "My leg is a sore, but it is not broken."Knapp does not know when she will return to Orchard.The two students are being charged with criminal assault. They were released to the custody of their parents.Orchard Elementary is a K-8 school on Cleveland's west side.
