A hearing was held Thursday for five teenagers charged in the beating of Shaker Heights attorney Kevin McDermott.

Additional charges were filed against the teens, including attempted murder.

Relatives and friends of the defendants filed into Judge Thomas O'Malley's courtroom minutes before the suspects arrived.

The cases could eventually end up in adult court at the Justice Center following a probable cause hearing, in which more evidence will be presented and witnesses will have an opportunity to testify.

Additional charges were filed against a 14-year-old defendant, whose identify is being withheld because of his age.

The suspects are accused of severely beating the Shaker Heights man while he was taking a walk on New Year's Eve.

The defendants will remain in juvenile detention until the probable cause hearing is held on March 5.
