CLEVELAND -- Cleveland's R.G. Jones School is set to reopen on Monday after a fire damaged part of the school this week. The school was open Thursday, but officials sent the children home early. An air quality report from the school on Monday was fine, but a couple of days later, another test found a possible problem with asbestos in the building. As of Friday afternoon, school leaders still don't know for sure if the school is safe yet.Cleveland schools Chief Operating Officer Dan Burns recommended sending the students home on Thursday after inconclusive test results shows slightly elevated levels of asbestos in the building. The tests were taken because of a fire in the basement of the school last weekend. On Monday, teachers and students complained about a strong smoky smell, but early air quality tests were good. The school is being cleaned, and more tests are under way.Burns is awaiting the results of a more sophisticated test that he hopes will resolve the issue and allow students to return to class on Monday."If I don't see the results I'm comfortable with, I'll ask the CEO to keep the building closed," said Burns. If those tests don't come back negative over the weekend, other arrangements will be made for the children. The fire at R.G. Jones has been ruled an arson.
