PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Road construction in Lake County is behind half a dozen motorists ending up in a ditch.NewsChannel5's Trisha Skidmore reported that the ditch is digging up trouble at one Painesville diner.Jack Blewett is a regular at the Favored Flavor Restaurant. He said that last week he saw a couple crash their car into the ditch in front of the restaurant. The ditch used to be the driveway, and that's why Blewett said customers get confused."Originally, this used to be the driveway right here, and I think the person came in and thought that this was the driveway and they turned in," said Blewett.Six people over the past two months have driven their cars into the same ditch, all thinking it was the original driveway.Meanwhile, construction crews built a new dirt driveway just a few feet away. The Ohio Department of Transportation is widening and reconstructing Route 20 in front of the building."We do try to tell the customers, and the hostess does when they leave say, 'Be careful driving out,'" said manager Diane Popelas. Now that tape has been put up and more cones have been added, the owner said no more accidents have been reported.None of the people who crashed into the ditch was injured, and ODOT said the restaurant should have a driveway by Monday.
