DAYTON, Ohio -- Police in Dayton said a man was shot while he was holding a baby in his arms.

The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Elmhurst Road and Midway Avenue, NewsChannel5 partner ONN reported.

Police said officers arrived at the scene and found a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his arm and one to his chest. They said the victim was holding a 1-year-old child at the time he was shot.

Investigators said the victim is not providing much information about who shot him. According to police, they believe the shooting was in retaliation to a fight that happened at a gas station on Thursday night.

The victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
