CLEVELAND -- A Euclid police officer was killed Wednesday following a crash on Interstate 90.

Officer George Brentar, 49, was apparently trying to catch a speeding suspect when he tried to enter the highway from an access road near East 185th Street, lost control and hit a pole, NewsChannel5 reported.

The cruiser caught fire and Brentar was killed.

The officer was a 22-year veteran of the force.

Two off-duty Erie, Pa., police officers saw what happened and tried to help, but it was too late.

Brentar has a wife and two children.
