CLEVELAND -- A man who died after being dropped off at Fairview Hospital Wednesday became Cleveland's 100th homicide of 2007. Police said two men tried to buy drugs with fake money near West 130th Street and Bellair Road. The drug dealer then shot into the men's car, hitting David McElhiney, 44, and Michael Malloy, 30, officers said. McElhiney was killed. Malloy was arrested after dropping him off at the hospital. The city didn't hit 100 homicides until November in 2005 and 2006. According to the Plain Dealer, at the current rate of homicides, Cleveland could hit 130 deaths by the end of the year. That would make one homicide every 65 hours. Officials said the 2007 rate is the worst since 1995.
