CLEVELAND -- Wednesday evening's tragic bridge collapse in Minneapolis made many people wonder about the structural soundness of bridges in Ohio.NewsChannel5 investigator Ron Regan found out from the Ohio Department of Transportation that one in four bridges in Ohio, or 2,885, are structurally insufficient, and 643 of the state's bridges were built in 1905 or earlier.Regan also learned that Ohio has more bridges than any other state in the country except for Texas, and the state has more than 42,000 highway bridges. In Ohio's District 12, which includes greater Cleveland, there are 900 structures that ODOT is responsible for inspecting and maintaining, 310 of which are over water. The I-90 bridge over the Grand River in Lake County is an arch bridge similar to the one in Minneapolis -- and so is Cleveland's Innerbelt Bridge, which was built in 1959 and is a major artery for the city of Cleveland.A 1998 inspection of Cleveland's Innerbelt Bridge revealed it was sliding into the river below, and 75 hi-tech sensors were installed to monitor signs of collapse while repairs took place. The Lake County bridge is currently undergoing major repairs.Statewide, ODOT spends about $239 million on bridge repair and replacement. The department said it's responsible for 12 Interstate highway bridges similar in design to the one that collapsed in Minnesota. All have been inspected within the past year.NewsChannel5's investigation found 376 of the nearly 15,000 bridges the Ohio Department of Transportation inspects are rated structurally deficient.ODOT officials insist bridges in Ohio are not at risk of collapsing."We'll keep a close eye on what is happening in Minnesota and clearly if there is anything we can learn or take away when there are actually findings or conclusions drawn, we're certainly take them under advisement," said ODOT's Lora Hummer.NewsChannel5's investigation found that 1,041 bridges like the Detroit Superior are more than 80 years old. Here are some statistics about some of the most traveled bridges in the Cleveland area:SR 2 Main Ave. Bridge
