Board Of Cosmetology Revokes Spa Owner's License

More Than 60 Complaints Filed Against Medi-Spa

The salon owner that was the subject of a 5 On Your Side investigation is now being told that his license will be revoked.

Richard Annabella is the owner of Westlake's Bella Derm, a salon with non-surgical weight-loss techniques.

As a result of the NewsChannel5 investigation, nearly 60 women have filed criminal complaints and a grand jury investigation is in the works.

Annabella was arrested in April, accused of practicing medicine without a license.

NewsChannel5 revealed serious complaints including punctured skin, bleeding and unsanitary conditions at the Westlake medi-spa.

Now, the State Board of Cosmetology has sent a notice of violation, revoking Annabella's license.

The Board credits NewsChannel5 for bringing the allegations to light.

"I would say in my two years of being executive director, it's one of the most comprehensive amounts of information that I have seen," said the Board's Kevin Miller. "I think, coupled with the media attention that has occurred, and the fact that we've had so many people willing to go to the Westlake Police Department, to come to the Board, I think that speaks to the seriousness of the issue and why I think we will see action taken very quickly on this."

NewsChannel5 reported that Bella Derm is in the process of being sold.

Annabella has 30 days to demand a hearing before the license revocation is permanent.
