STRONGSVILLE, Ohio -- Strongsville police are investigating the assault of a 15-year-old girl by an intruder who broke into her home.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in Strongsville's Waterford Crossing subdivision.

The teen was home alone upstairs when she heard someone downstairs. She hid in a closet and called her dad for help.

The girl's mother said the intruder found her and said, "What are you doing here? Now you've ruined everything."

The family believes he was there to burglarize the home.

But the girl told police the man took her into a wooded area and sexually assaulted her.

Police said they are talking to people in the neighborhood who were around when the incident allegedly took place.
