Police: Girl Kills Man In Argument Over TV

15-Year-Old Girls Arrested Following Man's Death

POSTED: 8:09 am EDT June 27, 2007

A 15-year-old girl faces a preliminary murder charge, accused by police of fatally stabbing her mother's boyfriend after a fight over what television show to watch.

According to officers, the girl and her twin sister were at home Saturday night when an altercation with Michael Lewis, 38, got out of hand, Indianapolis TV station WRTV reported.

"There was some argument about what was going to be watched on television," said Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters. "The argument was furthered when the victim allegedly kicked the family's dog. He then left the residence and was pushed down outside by one of the 15-year-old girls."

According to police, Lewis hit the girl in the face. The girl's twin intervened in the struggle, but her sister came out of the house with a knife.

"The first sister ... got around her, moved toward the victim and eventually stabbed him in the chest," Qualters said.

The girl ran to the home of Christopher Robertson, her neighbor.

"She was frantic, out of her mind. I don't even think she realized what she had done," Robertson said. "She was like, 'Oh my God, I stabbed Mike and my sister's hurt. He pushed me. That's why I did it."

Lewis died from his wound. When police arrived, both girls were arrested.

"When officers arrived, the first sister was being taken into custody. She resisted," Qualters said. "The sister struck one of the officers in the head. So, she will be charged with battery on a police officer."

The girl accused in the stabbing is housed in the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center.

The Monroe County prosecutor wants her tried as an adult. The other twin is at a Knox County juvenile facility.
