Tubbs Jones Won't Run For Governor
Congresswoman Seeks Third Term In House
POSTED: 11:54 a.m. EST January 23, 2002
CLEVELAND -- Stephanie Tubbs Jones is saying no to the governor's seat and yes to congress.
The congresswoman plans to seek a third term in the House of Representatives, NewsChannel5 reported.
Tubbs Jones said she considered running for governor because of the various issues that need to be addressed in the state, but believes her place is in congress.
She also considered the lack of black governors
in the United States. She is the only black member of Ohio's congressional
delegation.
But she said her place is in Congress, not the statehouse.
Democrats and labor leaders had asked her last year to run for
governor against Republican incumbent Bob Taft.
The only Democrat officially in the governor's race is former
Cuyahoga County Commissioner Tim Hagan.
