Home Invasion Leads To Police Chase

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River police said a home invasion led to a police chase Saturday morning. A woman said she heard someone knocking at the door of her Hilliard Avenue home at about 11 a.m. She couldn't answer right away and a few minutes later she surprised a burglar standing in her kitchen, she said. She said she screamed and the man ran away.Officers put out a description of the suspect's car. Westlake police spotted it and North Olmsted and North Ridgeville police joined the high-speed chase until the car crashed at Center Ridge Road and Route 83.A man and woman in the car were being treated at St. John Westshore Hospital.Wendell Carte, also in the car, was charged with aggravated burglary. A relative told NewsChannel5 that Carte has been in and out of detention centers since he was 11.Rocky River police said the home was chosen at random, but only entered the home because no one answered the door.
