CLEVELAND -- Cleveland City Council voted Monday night to pass an emergency resolution urging all businesses in the city not to sell an energy drink called Cocaine.Council members said the name desensitizes children to the dangers of the drug. The drink is sold in 20 states, but if council has its way it will disappear from store shelves. The drink doesn't contain the illegal drug; however, it contains three times the caffeine found in Red Bull, a popular energy drink, and seven times more caffeine than a can of Coke."I mean, a product called Cocaine," said Councilman Michael Polensek. "What message is that sending to our kids, what message is that sending to our neighborhoods, that anything goes?"The council's resolution doesn't forbid the sale of the drink, but it discourages it. A bill in the New York State Senate would ban the sale of any product using the name of a controlled substance. The drink's inventor told NewsChannel5 in a phone interview that it is just good marketing. He said he knew the controversy would help generate publicity.
