Judge Rules Against City's Residency Requirement

Cleveland city employees should be free to live wherever they want, a judge ruled Friday.

Cuyahoga County Judge Peter Corrigan rejected the city's claim that a state law that lifts all residency requirements for city employees doesn't apply and that the law steps on the city's right to home rule.

Police union president Steve Loomis is among those applauding the decision, while also saying that its members aren't moving anywhere just yet.

"We have houses that we would have to sell to move; there's logistics involved. Plenty of people in the police department want to stay in the city, that will stay in the city," said Loomis.

The city is expected to appeal the judge's decision.
