A Strongsville High School swim coach is under investigation after she was accused of assaulting one of her swimmers.

Coach Liz Hastings has been banned from the Strongsville Recreation Center where the high school team holds practice.

Hastings was reported to police after two lifeguards allegedly witnessed her abusing a member of the swim team, NewsChannel5 reported.

According to police reports, Hastings lost control and threw a pool cone or buoy at a juvenile female team member, hitting her in the head while she was in the pool.

The student's parents contacted police and Hastings was banned from the rec center.

Several swimmers on the team are being questioned by police. Hastings could face charges of assault and child endangering.

Swimmer Tracy Morgan said Hastings has always been kind to all of her teammates.

Morgan said Strongsville Mustang pride has grown under Hastings and many swim parents are showing their support as the investigation goes on.

NewsChannel5 was unable to reach Hastings for comment. Police said the teen swimmer was not physically injured by the alleged incident.

Strongsville parents are expected to lobby in favor of reinstating Hastings at Monday evening's City Council meeting.
