CLEVELAND -- A deacon at the Cleveland Church of Christ was indicted Friday, accused of inappropriately touching an 11-year-old on multiple occasions.

Michael Davis, 48, of Bedford, faces 15 counts of gross sexual imposition. He faces up to 75 years in prison if convicted.

He is a friend of the alleged victim's family. The inappropriate touching started when the child was 7 years old, officials said.

In 2005, the victim's mother was in the hospital and the child was left in Davis' care.

The church he helped lead is stunned.

"It's hard to believe from talking to him. It doesn't seem like somthing he would do, but I mean, you don't really ever know I guess," neighbor Hugh Downs said.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason calls the crimes disgraceful.
