CLEVELAND -- Who knew that opening a "Diet Coke" would warrant such attention for a Cleveland elementary teacher?
NewsChannel5 reports that Jeannie Roth, a second-grade teacher, has been getting a lot of attention since opening the can."Teachers were asking what happened," said Roth. "I said, this can't possibly happen... And one teacher said 'Well, you have too many witnesses,' which was true, because it was just a conversation starter."
She said when she opened the can, it kind of fizzed, but she didn't notice anything different until she tasted it.Instead of Diet Coke, she had a golden brew. Yes, beer.Because Roth wasn't sure about what she tasted, she passed the can around to other teachers to make sure."I said, 'I just want you to try this Diet Coke,'" said Roth. "She said 'I don't drink Diet Coke.' I said, 'Try it.' She said, 'Oh, I like this Diet Coke!'"It was quite funny... but then I thought of repercussion, what would happen if a kid actually got hold of it or a recovering alcoholic got ahold of it?"So what happened? The Coca Cola Co. says that it's impossible that the beer got into the can at their production facilities because they don't make beer there.Looking at the can, it shows a gold top.Coca Cola says that the gold lids aren't part of the Diet Coke can, but they will not know for sure until tests on the can are completed.Until then, the company says Roth will get her diet, but it will not know for sure what happened until the tests are completed.Another Clevelander, Bill Deforde, also found the brew in place of his Coke.
