LORAIN, Ohio -- A baby was found Sunday in a garage in Lorain, NewsChannel5 reported. The discovery was made at about 2:30 p.m. at a garage on West 14th Street off of Leavitt Road.A nearby resident said he heard a strange sound coming from the garage. He found the baby boy wrapped in a sheet in a laundry basket in a red sport utility vehicle."My first reaction was like, you know, the cops, call the cops. It's things you don't think happen next-door," Robert Arroyo said. The baby was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.Officials said the baby was starving and hadn't been fed in days. They also said the boy had bed sores that indicated he had been lying down for days. He is listed in stable condition.Police contacted the owner of the SUV, who said he had been out of town and didn't know anything about a baby.Police are still looking for the baby's parents. If anyone has information about the baby, call 440-204-2105 ext 237 for Detective Denman.
Safe Haven Law
Ohio does have a Safe Haven Law. Mothers can drop their newborns off at hospital emergency rooms, police and fire stations. The law protects the baby's mother from prosecution, as long as the baby has not been harmed. She can give up her baby without leaving her name. If she does identify herself, her name will be kept confidential. Previous Stories:
