One of the candidates in the Cleveland mayoral race has picked up an endorsement from U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

NewsChannel5 reports that the congressman made the announcement from his own campaign headquarters in Cleveland that he will support Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jane Campbell.

Kucinich became the city's youngest mayor when he was elected in 1977.

The 48-year-old Campbell is trying to become the city's first female mayor and is running against former U.S. Education Department appointee Raymond Pierce in the Nov. 6 election.

Pierce would be the third black leader for Cleveland. Both candidates are Democrats.

Kucinich started campaigning for Campbell Saturday. He promised her support from the city's west side, where he is popular.

Kucinich, who also thought about running for mayor, said that he endorsed Campbell because she been there for the city whenever it needed her.
