The review of the largest shopping centers and malls found it had five stolen cars and 16 more broken into. Regan said there are some very specific things that you can do to keep you and your family safe this holiday season. 5 On Your Side rode along with a Mentor police officer at Great Lakes Mall, which was the safest in our area. There are three key safety tips are: No. 1: Pay attention to your surroundings.“Maybe not talking on a cell phone when your walking into a mall because that could distract you,” said Sgt. Andrew Lehner of the Mentor Police Department.No. 2: Be careful with money. "Don't be obviously fanning through a stack of 20s that somebody may notice and say, 'Boy they got a few hundreds dollars I may be able to get.' " No. 3: Be on guard in parking lots."If you can, park close to a door. That makes it harder for a person to approach you especially if it is nighttime when you get back to your car."
