Cleveland police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on the south side.

Officials said a Garfield Heights police officer shot a 65-year-old man on Grand Division at about 8:15 a.m.

According to police, the Garfield Heights officer stopped at a friend's house on the Cleveland side of the street. The men got into a conversation about weapons, at which time the officer unholstered his weapon and it accidentally discharged.

The bullet hit his friend in the leg. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

The on-duty officer was visiting his friend after church, police said.

The Garfield Heights officer has been on the job for 17 years. He was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
