Tourists Taking Pictures Of Nuclear Plant Questioned

They Were Released When Deputies Determined They Weren't A Threat

POSTED: 2:23 p.m. EDT October 11, 2001

It's a sign of the time. Police are keeping a close eye on nuclear power plants.

And sheriff's deputies in Ottawa County detained a group of foreign tourists for taking pictures of the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station near Toledo, NewsChannel5 reports.

They were photographing the plant and the huge plumes of smoke billowing from it over the weekend.

It turns out that they were from Italy, Brazil and Denmark, and one person worked for a power company overseas. The others were Ford employees who were in Michigan for training. They were all released once it was determined they weren't a threat.

The group was on their way to Cedar Point when they stopped for photos.
