Magic Sign Veteran Johnson

POSTED: 1:35 pm EDT July 16, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Orlando Magic have signed free agent guard Anthony Johnson, the club announced Tuesday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Johnson, 33, averaged 5.6 points, 3.8 assists, and two rebounds in 69 games with the Hawks and Kings last season, with 52 starts. The 11-year veteran has averages of 5.7 points, 2.9 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game over his career, which has included multiple stops in Sacramento and Atlanta, and stints in Cleveland, New Jersey, Indianapolis, and Dallas.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard played 18 games for the Magic in the 1999-2000 season.

"Anthony addresses our need for depth at the point guard position," said Magic general manager Otis Smith. "He is a veteran leader who has played in the NBA Finals. We are happy to add Anthony to the Magic family."
