POSTED: 7:49 pm EDT September 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics signed guard Sam Cassell on Monday. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Cassell joined the Celtics last season after he was waived by the Los Angeles Clippers. He played 17 games with the Celtics and averaged 7.6 points and 2.1 assists per game.

In Celtics' successful postseason run, he averaged 4.5 points and 1.2 assists in 17 games on the way to winning his third NBA title.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Cassell, a 15-year NBA veteran, was originally selected by the Rockets with the 24th overall pick of the 1993 draft, but has made stops in Phoenix, Dallas, New Jersey, Milwaukee, Minnesota and the Clippers.

The Florida State product has averaged 15.7 points, six assists and 3.2 rebounds per game in 993 games for his career.
